who we are

CapeLocalRadio.com began as a community effort to save the home of our local public radio station, WCAI, in the historic Captain Davis House in Woods Hole.

For 25 years, the station has a bastion of community-oriented public broadcasting. Founded by local residents and always listener-supported, WCAl's radio signals have served Cape Cod, Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard, and the South Coast.

When the managing organization, WGBH in Boston, entered an agreement to sell the Davis House, without notice, the community resisted the loss of the building and the station's home. Those efforts are chronicled on these pages.

Finally, the Woods Hole Community Association purchased the building with 1.8 million raised from a remarkable fundraising campaign.  WGBH has declined to remain there, even rent-free, and is moving.

The community, though, is dedicated to finding the most vibrant uses for this sentinel building at the top of Water Street, and to continuing to support local community-based non-commercial radio.
